SUMMARY:The PEER Movement: Exploring Different Modalities of PEER Support
DESCRIPTION:A Lunch & Learn Panel Discussion\nPanel discussion will explore what a peer coach is and ways to engage peer support in the addictions and co-occurring disorders profession. \nAbout this event\nThis panel will explore what a peer coach is and how peer recovery support is being utilized currently in the field. We will also look at the different modalities of peer support and explain more effective ways to utilize this workforce in treatment settings as we move into the future. Panelists include individuals who operate in both the clinical and peer systems and have deep insight into the need for these two areas to collaborate more directly. \nPanelists:\n\nMODERATOR: CJ Oliveira\, CAAP\nCJ Oliveira is a Certified Addiction Specialist and a CCAR trained recovery coach. CJ earned a Bachelor of science degree in psychology at Colorado State University in 2008 and is currently developing and managing the Alumni and Aftercare Services Program for a treatment center in Boulder. He uses both his lived experience in drug addiction and professional background to develop and manage programs with a strong focus on how they impact clients\, their loved one’s\, and the communities they live in.\nAllison Harden\, Peer Supervisor\, Beyond Betty\nAllison Harden’s personal recovery journey led her to employment roles in Community Outreach at the Betty Ford Center and the Center for Dependency Addiction and Rehabilitation (CeDAR). She has a Master of Science from the University of Denver in Organizational Leadership. Her education along with her lived experience inspired her to open Beyond Betty\, where she continues to support individuals\, families\, and organizations in all areas of nonclinical addiction and recovery support services. Services include care navigation\, recovery coaching\, peer support supervision\, and continuing education training facilitation for the peer support workforce. She holds the Colorado Peer and Family Specialist credential (CPFS)\, the National Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist credential (NCPRSS)\, and the Recovery Coach Professional (RCP). Allison’s experience has shown her that peer recovery coaching and peer support is an asset for those desiring a long-term life in recovery.\nCharles Van Loucks\, ke’nekt\nCharles Van Loucks began his career with ke’nekt in March of 2020 as a Peer Recovery Coach and quickly noted that the landscape of our community’s use of drugs had drastically changed. A former heroin user himself\, Charles began to quickly understand the Opioid epidemic and the need for more resources and support for those who wish to recover. A better approach to include the client’s voice. Charles served as a frontline worker during the pandemic and has had a positive impact in over 200 lives. Charles’ client centered approach and his creativity play a big role in his coaching practice and was the inspiration behind the development of our program’s use of the 7 dimensions of wellness to help guide clients when setting/reaching goals. Charles was recently named Director of Communication and is pleased to announce that his podcast “Get Ke’nekted” will be ready to roll out in late Fall of 2022.\nRachel Fowler\, CCAR Trainer\nRachel Fowler has been working as a Recovery Coach Professional\, Trainer\, and Supervisor since 2017. SUMMARY:Faulty Human Mental Fitness Fair
DESCRIPTION:The Community Mental Fitness Fair titled Faulty Human\, supports awareness and funding for The Aspen Strong Mental Health Fund held at Aspen Community Foundation. The fund subsidizes mental health services for under-insured and uninsured individuals and families who cannot afford to pay for them. Scholarships are awarded for up to 10 sessions per request for private therapy\, group therapy and psychiatric assessment. \nThe title Faulty Human comes from artwork and inspiration from local High School student and artist\, Axel Livingston:\n“Mental illness is a continuous cycle for me\, the second I think I have one base covered I seem to slip up on another. I find myself trapped in the jaws of something I don’t quite understand. I’ve found it very helpful to express the pain & try to unattach from it. It’s beneficial to attribute my pain to a condition rather than think of myself as a faulty human. The idea around this piece is mental growth. I have only grown because I expressed myself. There is a profound power in acknowledging & releasing pain and discomfort. However we may do this\, it all works the same”. \nIn reading is explanation of what mental illness meant to him\, we realized the shame that may come with the feeling of being a faulty human. However\, we are all perfectly imperfect. We are all “faulty” in some way. We want to take this opportunity to celebrate our differences and our similarities. To come together as one\, one community\, that encourages people to be proud of who they are\, and to provide the community with as many resources and tools that support the four pillars of mental fitness. \nThis year\, our goal is to reach $100\,000 in support of The Aspen Strong Mental Health Fund held at Aspen Community Foundation. A donation of $1250 would cover one family or individual with ten therapy sessions they would not otherwise receive. Even a small donation can make a big impact on the communities mental well-being! \nIf you are interested in becoming a sponsor\, please email lindsey@aspenstrong.org or click here to donate now.

SUMMARY:Pain Neuroscience Education Training
DESCRIPTION:Two-day training on pain neuroscience education all health care providers in Western Colorado. \nEvidence In Motion is an education and consultation company that exists to elevate the role of medical providers in healthcare delivery by providing evidenced-based\, premier post-professional education to healthcare providers. \nPain Neuroscience Education (PNE) has gained a lot of interest as a treatment for pain\, especially persistent pain. Current best-evidence has shown that PNE (teaching people about pain)\, has powerful effects on pain ratings\, disability\, fear-avoidance\, pain catastrophizing\, decreased movement and healthcare utilization. Better yet\, it has been shown that PNE\, when combined with common therapeutic treatments such as exercise\, increases its efficacy. PNE specifically decreases fear-avoidance and pain catastrophizing\, which allow patients to move more\, attain goals and ultimately self-efficacy. The evidence is growing. Additionally\, PNE which was originally designed for persistent pain\, has found its way into various clinical settings and various diagnoses and clinical conditions\, including acute\, sub-acute and perioperative pain. \n

SUMMARY:Pathfinders Summer Raft Trip —
DESCRIPTION:THE PURPOSE…  Our aim is simple: provide a safe\, supportive space immersed in the healing elements of nature and the river. \nYou may need to come and just be quiet… or maybe you want to listen and feel the freedom to share in an environment where others understand those feelings. The key here is openness and non-judgment. \nTHE AGENDA… \nDAY ONE: We meet near Grand Junction\, at the turn-off to the Loma River boat launch. (Shuttle options available.) We will then load dry bags\, assess our gear and the guides will rig the rafts. Lunch will be provided before we float to our first campsite.
If you’ve never been camping before\, don’t worry\, the staff is there to help—this trip is all about working together on every level. SUMMARY:Are The Boys Alright? (For Professionals)
DESCRIPTION:How to Help Your Young Male Clients Get Unstuck\, Get Healthy and Thrive with Elizabeth Jorgensen\, CADC\n\n\nDescription: \n\nFor young men\, depression and anxiety often manifest in patterns of avoidance\, withdrawal from school and social life\, and displays of anger and aggression. What can appear to parents as poor or “bad” behaviors are often the telltale signs of severe distress. Our culture still stigmatizes mental health conditions in boys and men\, which makes it more difficult for them to ask for help\, or even realize they are depressed or anxious. This workshop focuses on the unique presentation of boys when they are suffering\, and how clinicians and parents can engage them in conversation and treatment. \nLearning objectives:\n-Describe the rates of depression\, anxiety\, and substance abuse in teen and young adult men\n-Identify atypical presentations of depression and anxiety in teen and young adult boys\n-Learn and practice three strategies for engaging young men in the process of assessment and treatment \nCE credits available for psychologists*\, therapists*\, counselors*\, and social workers*. Please email kim.fuller@newporthealthcare.com.\n*Dependent on location. \n\n\n\nTime \n\nJun 23\, 2022 12:00 PM — Mountain Time (US and Canada) \n

SUMMARY:Breathwork Healer Training: Level 1
DESCRIPTION:Many people use this class to deepen their own relationship with breathwork and for their personal healing\, as this course provides invaluable skills to improve all aspects of your life. You do not have to plan on doing breathwork healing sessions for others in order to take this class. \n— \nThis is going to be a fun and dynamic 2 day workshop where Eliza will teach you the basics of the Healer Training work created by David Elliott. \nIn this training\, you will learn about the 2-stage Pranayama Breathwork meditation\, which is one of the foundational tools of the work. You will learn why the breath is used the way it is in clearing your mind and body of stuck energy\, and how breathwork brings clarity\, in particular with your intuition. \nExercises and partnered breakout sessions within the class are used to develop your connection to intuition\, boost confidence around your gifts and talents to live freely\, and open the heart to the power of self-love. The Level 1 class includes training and guidance with all of David’s healing tools and extensive discussion about the work\, the breath and what it is to heal yourself and others. This class is the first of four levels that prepare you to work with others and lead breathwork circles. \n“Intuition thrives on love\, faith\, grace\, peace\, nature and freedom.” – DE\nEliza was first introduced to breathwork meditation back in 2009 during a time of disenchantment and disconnection. Through this practice and the trainings\, Eliza not only became enlivened and excited about life again\, she also discovered a deep well of creativity and intuition that existed within her. This reconnection has inspired her to be a part of sharing this work with others and helping people remember the power that exists in developing and trusting your intuition. \n— \nDavid’s body of work outlines a foundation for healing yourself\, understanding what self-love is and how to cultivate it and makes sure you have FUN along the way. Whether you are looking to deepen your intuition or simply develop a deeper understanding of what you desire\, there is something in his work for everyone. \n— \nPREPARATION FOR CLASS: \nPlease read David’s book The Reluctant Healer and answer all of the questions throughout in order to be prepared for this training. Not required but HIGHLY recommended is to read David’s book Healing. The more you engage with this work prior to the trainings\, the richer and deeper the training will be\, so I also recommend practicing David’s Breathwork meditations found on Spotify or his website\, especially his Entity Energy Release Meditation. \nLOGISTICS: \n\n\nYou will receive a confirmation email with further details about the class following your payment. \n\n\nThis training is held at The Aspen Chapel\, in Aspen\, CO. You will be responsible for your own lodging and meals throughout the training. I will send some lodging recommendations by the end of March. \n\n\nPlease bring a notebook\, something to write with\, an eye cover\, blanket & yoga mat (we will only have a limited number of extra mats and blankets\, so notify Eliza if you are traveling and will need one)\, refillable water bottle and a curious mind. \n\n\nLight snacks will be provided at the break. You will have a one-hour lunch break each day. There are many local eateries in town\, however it is recommended that you bring your lunch\, so you don’t feel rushed having to run into town. \n\n\nVisit David’s site to sign-up for future levels 2-4 he is offering. More dates become available as the year goes on so check back often. You can also take level 2 with Danielle Hering and Erin Telford.
