The HeadQuarters Mental Health Fund has had a significant impact on the lives of people in our community.
Erica, a Mental Health Fund recipient, shares the impact the fund has had on her life:
“My low self-esteem lead me to tolerate situations I should have never allowed…I would consistently put myself in a victim role, and was in an intimate relationship with an alcoholic and endured abuse. I was an accomplice to his illness.
My low self-esteem lead me to tolerate situations I should have never allowed. I went through neglect, psychological and physical abuse. I would consistently put myself in a victim role.
Now I refuse to be a victim. [I learned that] I am enough, I learned to love myself, I learned to set boundaries. I had to grab on to courage to be able to assume responsibility for my choices. I cannot change anybody, I just need to accept myself and move forward. I learned to feel my power, to stand in my power and be mindful of it one day at a time.
I am grateful for the funding provided through the Mental Health Fund, so I could engage in mental health services when I needed it the most.”
